CAROLINE - A film by Mani Nasry

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1421199/ Director/Producer/Writer -MANI NASRY http://twitter.com/#!/ManiNasry Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story. James Franco at Live Talks Los Angeles, in conversation with Judd Apatow

Video from a Live Talks Los Angeles event with James Franco in conversation with Judd Apatow at The Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, on October 20, 2013. They discussed Franco's debut novel, Actors Anonymous. For more information on Live Talks Los Angeles, visit: www.livetalksla.org James Franco is an actor, director, author, and visual artist. His film appearances include Milk, Pineapple Express, Howl, and 127 Hours, which earned him an Academy Award nomination. He is the author A California Childhood and of the story collection Palo Alto, and his writing has been published in Esquire, Vanity Fair, N+1, The Wall Street Journal, and McSweeney’s. Franco’s art has been exhibited throughout the world including at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Museum of Contemporary Art’s PS1 in New York, the Clocktower Gallery in New York, and the Peres Projects in Berlin. In James Franco’s debut novel, Actors Anonymous, the actors include a McDonald’s drive-thru operator who spends his shift trying on accents; an ex-child star recalling a massive beachside bacchanal; hospital volunteers and Midwestern transplants; a vampire flick starlet who discovers a cryptic book written by a famous actor gone AWOL; and the ghost of River Phoenix. Then there’s Franco himself, who prowls backstage, peering out between the lines—before taking the stage with fascinating meditations on his art, along with nightmarish tales of excess. “Hollywood has always been a private club,” he writes. “I open the gates. I say welcome. I say, Look inside.” Told in a dizzying array of styles—from lyric essays and disarming testimonials to hilariously rambling text messages and ghostly footnotes—and loosely modeled on Alcoholics Anonymous’s Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, Actors Anonymous is an intense, wild ride into the dark heart of celebrity. Judd Apatow is a film producer, director, and screenwriter. Best known for his work in comedy films, he is the founder of Apatow Productions and also developed the cult television series Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared and Girls. Apatow's work has won numerous awards including a Primetime Emmy Award (for The Ben Stiller Show), a Hollywood Comedy Award, and an AFI Award for his movie Bridesmaids. His work has also been nominated for Grammy Awards, PGA Awards, Golden Globe Awards and Academy Awards (for Bridesmaids). In October 2012, Vanity Fair announced that Apatow would be guest-editing their comedy Issue, the first person to ever do so. In 2007, he was ranked #1 on Entertainment Weekly's The 50 Smartest People in Hollywood.

11. Fiesta : Russ Winter vs Josh Piper

Fiesta : Russ Winter vs Josh Piper

What do you get if you take two of the most talented and eccentric British surfer’s, one of the most talented videographers in Europe and a very armature photographer and put them in France for a week? Carnage and pure gold is the answer. The trip was a mix of two half’s, on one side you have Russ Winter the most successful British surfer of all time and Europe’s first ever CT competitor. Known for his incredible talent and Bulldog attitude to compete at the very top of world surfing. And then you have Josh Piper an interesting young man with an abundance of natural talent and an alternative dress sense to boast. We headed to France to start our Journey with a swell chart that was looking sexy with swell and sun for 3 days. Like most trips that surfers go on we all turned into immature teenagers as soon as we arrived at the airport and started taking the piss out of each other from the get go! It was evident from our first surf that these two guys are close mates, Josh look’s up to Russell and Russ look’s to Josh for inspiration to keep his surfing fresh. One thing was very clear from day one, they are competitive animals through and through! So how do you fuel this type of surfer on a video trip? You make them compete for clips! Every surf session turned into a contest with each surfer going blow for blow and returning to the beach demanding a result from Tim and myself. I’m not going to lie to you, Thing got heated and the results were contested and a video play back in the evening was needed to make a final decision, if we were undecided then it turned to how much food they could eat with plate after plate of spaghetti engulfed! One thing that made myself, Tim and Josh's trip was just sitting back and listening to some of Russ's tales from his long roller coster career! The guy had us laughing and on the edge of our seats on a constant basis, it definitely took the edge off driving aimlessly to check banks! "I beat Occy in 6 foot perfect Jbay 2 years in a row! He was pissed, worst was he was my best mate and I was travelling with him on tour" Day 2- Morning came with Russ the first one up, fuelled up with coffee and determined to show the young wiper snapper who was boss. We headed to the bank’s that supplied us with fun waves the day before to find the swell is pumping but the bank’s had done a disappearing act on us. After driving from car park to car park we were trying to fight off the situation that we were finding our self in! The French GOOSE chase! Drive all day searching for banks, chasing up leads that surfers have thrown you and finishing the day with a belly full of bread an empty fuel tank and a dry wetsuit. Luckily we managed to get our surf’s in and the lads made the most of the rippable conditions we found, 5 surfs down and Russ is confessing that he’s not surfed that much in a day since he was 16!! Beers drank and clips tallied- Russ was ahead by 1! Day 3- After a massive previous day surfing the team was a bit sluggish to say the least. We headed to our local bakery to fuel up on pastries and coffee to get the day going. With the same swell height we retraced our steps from the day before hoping that the same tide would offer the same surf! No, don’t be bloody stupid this is France and the goose was on fire all morning sending us all over the shop! After regrouping over another coffee in Café De Paris we made a team decision to investigate a bank in the Forest that we had been told of. This was our last afternoon of swell and we were all in agreement that we need one more session to finish the video. We raced up to the forest only to find that we had been willy teased yet again. Whilst holding our heads siting in the sand dune sulking for 20 min’s, Russ your Frothing grom on the trip spotted a sandy peak up the beach, within minutes the boards were waxed and we ran up the beach like school kids chasing a ice cream van. The boy’s hit the water and with in 10 min’s the bank turned on sending through 4 foot below sea level bazza’s. The boy’s went to town for 2 hours on there own trading barrel after barrel. We had done it! We had out goosed the goose and she had given up her golden egg for the team to enjoy on there own in the sun. With 4 very happy brit’s returning to the apartment, no surf the following day and memory cards full of sick pic’s and clip’s we did what every surfer would do and headed to Spain to celebrate. We decide on the drive down that after the 3 days of competition the boy’s were drawn on points and the only way to settle this argument was to find a quiet bar and settle it on the dance floor. Tapas eaten, booze consumed and the shapes were thrown! The jury is still out on the winner, watch the video and you can make you own mind up. CLICK's cast of Stags and Hens perform

CLICK is producing Willy Russell's Stags and Hens from 5 - 8 March 2014. This is one of our trailers. To book: 01908 235505 or visit thechrysalismk.co.uk TICKET PRICES: "Stage-side seating" tickets - which include a soft drink and nibbles £14 (limited to 20 per night - MUST be booked in advance) "Normal" tickets £12 Concessions £10 Special price for the Camphill Community Residents £6 PERFORMANCE TIME: 7.45pm - 10.00pm ABOUT THE SHOW: Stags and Hens (the remix) by Willy Russell, an amateur production by arrangement with Samuel French Ltd "Bride and Groom on their wedding's eve, should never the other one perceive..." Unknown to each other, Dave and Linda are holding their respective stag and hen parties in the same tacky club…or more accurately, its’ toilets. Both parties are seeking a night (or even just a few minutes) of passion – with the exception of the groom, who is throwing up after the curry, and the bride, who is having second thoughts. Bring in the bride’s ex who is now a successful musician and the battle of the sexes is set to explode! Russell’s raucous, coarse, and very funny play is a brilliant depiction of what passes for courtship, with the squeals, jeers and flings considered a necessary prelude to getting married. Stags and Hens premiered in 1978 at the Everyman Theatre, Liverpool; the updated text, entitled Stags and Hens – The Remix was produced at the Royal Court, Liverpool, in 2008. Contains strong language and adult themes - The Only Way is Liverpool! About CLICK Following the successes of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast", and Tim Firth's "Calendar Girls", CLICK is delighted to be back at The Chrysalis with Willy Russell's "Stags and Hens - The Remix". CLICK believes that the arts as a confidence building and self-expressive pursuit should be ACCESSIBLE TO ALL, therefore, unlike most groups we do not charge a playing nor audition fee, funding our productions out of ticket sales and the generous donations of those committed to our mission. In casting, we don't ask for previous experience, just commitment, a positive attitude and the willingness to learn and "give it a go". You bring us your enthusiasm, and we’ll help with the rest! To date we have had the opportunity to work with some fantastic creative personnel on projects such as the BBC on their Shakespeare festival (for which we are part of a Guinness World Record); the Young Performers Group enabling a local school group to perform at London’s “Haymarket Theatre”; the Romero Trust, producing the London Premiere of "Romero The Musical" (commemorating the 30th anniversary of the assassination of Oscar Romero) which featured on Vatican Radio; and with amateur and semi-professional performers on highly celebrated productions including "The Full Monty" (attended by Alan Duncan MP, and the Mayor of Hillingdon); "Disney's Beauty and the Beast" (attended by the Deputy Mayor of Milton Keynes); and "Calendar Girls" (attended by the Mayor of Milton Keynes, as well as being part of a(nother) Guinness World Record for the largest number of productions of a single play in an 18 month period). Internationally we have also worked with “Malaysiana Muda” (Malaysian Youth) in a Youth Cultural Exchange project to raise the profile of young people in Hastings and in Kuala Lumpur, and most recently with Little Penang Street Market and the Penang Players on an Arts Exchange in support of their local charities - raising over 2000RM. We are committed to developing productions for all audiences and ages, and Stags and Hens which follows Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" and Tim Firth's "Calendar Girls" is part of our pledge to diversity within the arts. “The 39 Steps” is on stage at the George Street Playhouse April 24-May 20, 2012. The Tony Award-winning comedy tribute to Hitchcock's films is an audience favorite. Director Mark Shanahan counts himself among those fans. He first saw the play in London's West End, and has been a devotee ever since - acting in the Broadway version, and now directing acclaimed productions of the play around the country. He's especially pleased with the production at the George Street Playhouse, which features music from some of Hitchcock's most famous films.

After the Applause

A long time in the making...in the early 1990's I began a journey with an unchartered course. Almost 20 years later comes a very rough cut for a possible documentary. Many of the players are no longer with us and I am so appreciative of their time and their recollections. The birth of contemporary theatre in Canada, the golden days of CBC radio with Andrew Allan and the first steps of Canadian television. Many thanks to the many who volunteered on the many productions with special thanks going to J. D. Gravenor who did many of the original interviews and was a key motivator in keeping the project going. If you scroll down the page you will see the icons of Canadian theatre who participated in this project. It was time to let their stories be told.

19. David Shulenburger keynote

David Shulenburger keynote

As much as we would like, universities don’t fund themselves. In the closing keynote, David Shulenburger, vice president for academic affairs, National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC), offered practical advice on how to make digital repositories more visible to the public in hopes of winning over taxpayer support for educational institutions. “A digital repository is the most effective way to make information free and the public wants and desperately needs to have it,” he says. The public is eager to have the fruits of the scholarship they funded available because they know the right information at the right place can change lives. The job of a digital repository is to ensure that the extremely value scholarship paid for by taxpayers ultimately ends up accessible to them, as well as students, faculty and others. Shulenburger contends the focus has been about sharing information within the academy with little talk about access beyond campuses. It’s a challenging time with universities more uncertain about the future than ever before - endowments are tumbling, building plans postponed, hiring on hold, aid restricted to truly needy students. Public universities have seen funds in real terms fall over 20 years and now reductions of 10-20 percent over the next few years will not be unusual. All this is happening at a time when many universities want to embark on a new activity of building or expanding a repository. Given this, why should faculty and staff care about having a digital repository? “The answer is pretty simple: Because the folks who pay our bills need to and want to know how those investments in the university are benefiting them. Unlike most of other enterprises, universities do a lousy job of letting their investors know what they are getting from their investment,” he says. When universities promote themselves, too often they stress value only of the most identifiable products to certain audiences – education products to students, research expertise to funding agencies, and value of attracting new firms to chambers of commerce, says Shulenburger. The result of that specific selling is that the people come to the erroneous conclusion that only those beneficiaries should pay for the university – not the general public. To get the message across to the taxpayers about the value of the university, Shulenburger encouraged the audience to imagine all the products of a university (refereed publication, dissertations, extension publications, theater productions, images of objects from the campus museum, etc.) freely available on a digital repository and clearly labeled as products of the university. Then, the public becomes accustom to searching the university site for information. The searches would probably yield overwhelming results on information useful in their daily lives. “This is powerful,” he says. “Imagine the reward for knowing that people close to home care about these problems and their taxes are doing something to invest in them.” A well-populated digital repository should be promoted as a resource to citizens of state to enhance the value and funding of a university, Shulenburger maintains. Rather than talking about a digital repository helping build the career faculty members or preserving scholarship, Shulenburger suggests it can also enhance the financial health of universities over time. It’s time to let the light of universities shine and allow digital repositories to entice additional funding, he says. In closing, Shulenburger suggests seven steps to move forward: 1. Make sure there is a digital repository available for deposit work of your university’s faculty. 2. Work with the president, provost and faculty to show real benefits of broadening distribution of scholarly product. 3. Initiate discussions with administration and faculty to modify current practices and intellectual property policy so university retains certain rights. 4. Support efforts to spread public access policies, such as those of NIH, to all funding agencies and foundations. 5. Work to educate campus units to convince them to support, not to oppose the best interest of members. 6. Work with departments and faculty to develop habits of depositing into digital repository. 7. While information in a digital repository and search engines may sell itself, brand the information in your repository as information your university created or made available to the public. Work with your university public relations unit to spread the word so the public looks first to your repository for reliable information. “Digital repositories can make cultural contributions of scientific knowledge generated on campuses widely available and have profound effects,” Shulenburger says. “This is a case of doing good, while doing well.”
